I am not sure if you will remember me... I brought my daughter in to look at your instruments in the summer just before we headed home. You helped us try out some beautiful instruments and since then I have been trying to stash a bit of money here and there so that we might be able to purchase a new instrument before she heads to college. Well.... I still don't have all the money for the one we looked at but I have an interesting story to tell you. We had a recital yesterday. A new family came up to me at the close and asked where we purchase our violins. She very much liked the sound of our instruments. I had four children in the recital ranging from Suzuki Book 10 to Suzuki Book 2 - all violin. I told her that due to my financial circumstances, I actually had no tight connection with any particular luthier but that I knew of one really good one in St. Paul. She laughed and said she was from St. Paul. We both said "Fein" at the same time. You outfitted her son. Everyone notices the new students but I really liked this student's violin. When he played, I wondered where he had gotten it. Testament to your great job of matching instruments to people! We hope to be in St. Paul this summer and plan to stop in your shop to see what you have available in our price range. Thanks for your diligent efforts!!!

I have to tell you how pleased I am with my purchase, the Amati "Etude" 4/4 violin. It is one of the highest quality student-level violins I've come across. The pictures on your website do not do it justice. The sound quality is beautiful as well. The case and the bow included aren't just "swag" items like the lower quality some other sellers include - and to me this speaks volumes about the pride of your company and your products. Yes, I could have purchased another violin elsewhere for less money; however I'm glad I decided to invest in a violin that I will no doubt enjoy for years to come. Thanks again.

We received the cello today and are so pleased with it! The wood grain is beautiful, not to mention how wonderfully it plays. The strings are at the perfect height from the fingerboard, and the bow sounded really good on it. I also loved all the accessories that came with it like the polishing cloths, cleaner, protective covers and electronic tuner. I was actually a little surprised, because with such a great price for the whole outfit it far exceeded my expectations. But the cello and everything that came with it is amazing! Thank you so much.

The Viola you put together for my son is perfect for him at this stage of his playing. The better quality bow really does make a difference in sound (as you told me it would). Dale is very pleased with the dark sound from the Viola as this was the sound he requested. His love affair with the Viola started the minute he saw it and blossomed when he first played it. Hi all -
I've had my new viola for three weeks and it's time to drop you a note about how much I like it. I wanted something with a richer sound that would project well yet still blend nicely with the other instruments in the orchestra, quartet, etc. The sound of this instrument is beautiful and it fits well with the ensembles I play in. I am quite amazed at the difference in sound when compared with my old Viola - the new one makes my last one sound a bit like a banjo. One other thing I noticed is that when others are tuning/playing in the room (especially the Brass) my instrument is vibrating in my hands. It is much more responsive to other sounds than my last one was.

Amy I'd like to thank you for the time you took helping me play the various violas and picking one out.

Deb - thanks for helping me try out the bows and getting everything pulled together when I picked up the new instrument. Your rosin recommendation (Melos dark) was perfect. I've tried a fair number of rosins in the past year and this one is better than any I used and is doing a great job for me.

Andy - nice meeting you and talking about the instruments.

The cello arrived safely and it lives up to my expectation. It looks more beautiful than in the pictures, I love the varnish. It sounds rich, warm and wonderful and has the resonance of quality wood. The strings (Larson, I think) are of high quality and the case is very sturdy and sharp looking. The bow, too, is good, and feels more stable in my hand than others that I have used.
My teacher, who's a concert cellist from Russia, was quite impressed with the cello sound, and especially with the maple side and the one-piece back.
I believe I have made an excellent purchase and will highly recommend Fein Violins as a source for high quality string instruments.

We had our violin lesson today--Altana's teacher thinks the size of the instrument is right for her, and she was *very* impressed by the sound. She made the same comment about how rich the sound was for a 3/4 size. We will ship the Riva back tomorrow, and Altana is already asking if she can keep this one and not have to return it when the time comes. That will probably be a few years, but I can see this violin will be a hard act to follow.

First impressions are lasting impressions.

I am 54 years old, and live in Northeastern Montana. I want to learn music, and chose the viola for the sound it makes. I still don't know first position from third position, but I have a goal of playing church music and possibly even playing in the local symphonette, someday.
So, I rented a quality viola and ordered this one from Andy Fein. I have been scratching around on the rental for a while, and finally ordered this one. I felt I needed something to compare to.
First impressions: The viola arrived 2nd day air, as promised. I ordered 2 bows with this viola. Even a rank amateur like me can feel and hear the difference, and I already have a favorite--the carbon graphite bow.
Opening the case, I could see, feel, and smell quality. Comparison of the bridges between the two instruments showed the much greater attention to detail given to the Fein.
Under the chin, the Fein [viola] has the feel of quality, and comparison of the sounds--even though I cannot play, yet--is no contest. The Fein viola balances physically and tonally, and it sounds alive! It will be a joyous instrument to learn and I am sure it will take me as far, musically, as I am capable of achieving.

I received the D.Albert today. I must say I fully expected to be going back and forth before settling on the right instrument, particularly buying online. But you hit it right on the head with your recommendation. I played through Mozart 3 and some Bruch and even braved the first few measures of Don Juan and this D.Albert has a very full rich sound on the E, and a deep throaty voice on the lower strings, albeit still focused and sculpted even in the upper positions. I received the Violin yesterday, in perfect condition. This thing is beautiful, I am a woodworker and turner and I like to build with exotic and highly figured woods, so I am one who can appreciate something like this. The Maple is extraordinary, the Spruce is of such outstanding quality, straight grain, symmetrically matched. This is a work of fine art and craftsmanship, something intangible that comes from the care of the craftsman who built it. On playing it well, I am such a relative beginner I can only give my impressions. Large projecting sound, very little bow pressure needed, very responsive, light agile responsive bow. I only hope I can do this instrument justice as I progress. I am glad I bought it now, because I was developing some bad habits trying to force my old Violin to produce any sound at all. My thanks to you, this thing is really really impressive.

The color and the antique finish is just what I wanted, and The boxwood fittings are the exact style that I wanted (especially the heart-shape pegs). Thanks very much for the extra accessories. You didn't have to add them and that shows that you are interested in providing your customer with not only a quality product, but a good feeling with the whole experience.
